Snapchat is a social media app that lets you share photos and videos that disappear after your friends see them. It's all about sharing moments in real-time without the pressure of having them stick around forever. The app first launched back in 2011 and has grown into a massive platform. You can download it for free from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, and it has billions of installs worldwide. You do need to create an account to use it, but that's a quick process. While the core app is free, there are in-app purchases for things like special filters or Bitmoji outfits. You'll also see ads within the app, usually between stories or in the Discover section.

Using Snapchat is pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. You take a snap (a photo or video), add filters, text, or drawings, and send it directly to friends or add it to your Story for all your contacts to see for 24 hours. My biggest tip is to explore the different lenses and filters daily – they're always changing and can be a lot of fun. Also, don't forget to check the Snap Map to see what's happening around you or where your friends are (if they've chosen to share their location). The Chat feature is great for quick, disappearing conversations too.

Compared to other apps like Instagram or Facebook, Snapchat feels much more personal and in-the-moment. Instagram Stories are similar, but I always go back to Snapchat because it feels less curated and more authentic. The interface is unique and takes a minute to learn, but that's part of its charm. It doesn't try to be everything to everyone; it's focused on fun, ephemeral sharing with your close circle. While other apps have copied features like stories, Snapchat was the original, and for quick, silly updates with my closest friends, it's still my go-to choice.
