I first stumbled upon it on the Google Play Store a few months back, though I think it originally launched a bit earlier than that. The app is free to download, which is always a nice starting point, and it doesn't force you to register before you can try it out. You can jump right in and see what it can do. There are in-app purchases, naturally, for higher resolution exports or faster processing, and you will run into some in-app ads if you stick with the free version. It seems to have a decent number of installs on Google Play, but it's not as massive as some of the big names in this space yet.

Using the app is pretty straightforward. You start by typing a prompt, like a description of the image you want to create, or you can upload a photo of yourself or something else. The app then works its magic and produces a few variations for you. One tip I picked up is to be really specific with your words for better results. If you want a photo-realistic portrait of someone in a rainstorm, don't just type 'a person in rain.' Add details about the lighting, the expression, and the clothes. It makes a huge difference. You can also adjust settings like the aspect ratio before you hit the generate button.

I've tried a handful of similar apps from Google Play, like Dream by Wombo and some of the other generic AI generators. What made me stick with Version AI over them is that it feels a bit more grounded. While apps like Dream can be fun for abstract ideas, Version AI seems to handle photo-realistic faces and people a little better, which is what I use it for most. It just feels less toy-like and more like a practical tool for creating usable images, even if it isn't perfect.
