I've been messing around with PND AI Photo Enhancer HD for a few weeks now, and I have to say, it's a solid tool for fixing up old or blurry photos. Developed by PND AI 360, this app first launched back in 2022 and you can grab it right now on both Google Play and the App Store. It's a free download, which is nice, but you will need to register an account to actually use most of the features. On Google Play, it's sitting at over 10 million installs, so a lot of people are giving it a shot. There's no forced registration just to browse, but when you try to enhance a photo, it prompts you to sign in. As for costs, it's free to start, but there are in-app purchases if you want to unlock higher resolutions or remove watermarks. You'll also run into some in-app ads here and there, especially if you're using the free version, which can be a little annoying but not too overwhelming.

Using the app is pretty straightforward. You just open it up, tap to select a photo from your gallery, and then choose from options like “enhance,” “colorize,” or “denoise.” The app does all the heavy lifting in a few seconds, and then you can save the result or share it directly. One tip I found useful: for really old, grainy images, try running the “denoise” first before using the main enhancement feature. It seems to give a cleaner final result. Another thing is that the app works better with headshots or portraits rather than complex landscapes, so keep that in mind if you're trying to restore a group photo or something with a lot of detail.

I've tried a few other photo enhancers on Google Play, like Remini and Topaz Photo AI, but I ended up sticking with PND AI Photo Enhancer HD for a couple reasons. Remini is great for faces but can be slow unless you pay for the premium plan, and Topaz is more of a desktop thing, which isn't as convenient when I'm on the go. PND AI Photo Enhancer HD feels like a nice middle ground. It's quick, it's available on mobile, and the free tier actually gives you enough to play around with before deciding if you want to pay. For everyday use, like fixing up old vacation pics or sharpening blurry screenshots, this app does the job without me feeling like I'm missing out on pro-level features.

Features
  • 🎨 AI Face Refinement: This is the killer feature for me. Compared to Remini, which sometimes over-smooths faces, PND AI Photo Enhancer HD keeps skin texture looking natural while still sharpening eyes and hair. It's almost like it knows when to hold back, which makes old photos look less plastic.
  • ⚡ Batch Processing: Unlike many similar apps on Google Play that only let you do one image at a time unless you pay, this app actually lets you enhance up to five photos in one go on the free version. It saves so much time when I'm going through an album of old family photos.
  • 🖼️ Colorization for B&W Photos: I tried this on a few old black-and-white pictures of my grandparents, and the colors came out surprisingly accurate. It's better than what I saw in apps like Colorize, which sometimes adds weird tints to skin or skies. PND AI seems to have a good sense for natural tones.
  • 📱 Offline Mode for Basic Enhances: A huge plus is that you can do basic enhancement without needing Wi-Fi or mobile data. This is something I wish more apps, like PhotoDirector, would adopt. It's perfect for when I'm traveling or in a spot with bad signal.
